  1. How do I reinstall my System?
  2.  
  3. To reinstall your Macintosh System, you need to have the following disks available: 
  4.  
  5. * Macintosh System Tools disk
  6. * Macintosh Utilities Disk 1
  7. * Macintosh Utilities Disk 2
  8. * Macintosh Printing Tools disk
  9.  
  10. (Make sure you are installing System 6.0.4 or greater. The number of disks and the disk names will vary for System version 6.0.7.)

  12. The System installation will update any existing System files. All fonts and desk accessories will continue to be available. To reinstall your System, follow these steps:

  14. 1. Make backup copies of all four System disks if you have not already done so.
  15.  
  16. 2. Choose Restart on your Macintosh or start up your Macintosh if it is off. Immediately insert the Macintosh System Tools disk into a floppy disk drive. Make sure the disk remains in the disk drive and your Macintosh boots up from the floppy disk drive.

  18. 3. Double-click on the System Tools disk icon to display the contents of the disk on your screen.
  19.  
  20. 4. Locate the Installer icon and double-click on it to launch the Installer program.
  21.  
  22. 5. The Installer program's startup screen will be displayed. Read the dialog box. To continue, click OK.

  24. 6. To run the Installer program, make sure the disk drive being displayed is your local hard disk drive. If it is not, click Switch Disk until the correct drive is displayed.

  26. 7. Click Install. The program will begin to step you through the installation process. You will be instructed to swap disks as the System finishes copying information from each disk and transfers it to your hard drive.

  28. 8. A dialog box indicating that the installation was successful is displayed. Click Quit to exit the Installer and return to the Finder.

  30. 9. Your installation is now complete. Restart your Macintosh for the changes to take effect.
